The Simple Things

Time again for The Simple Things! :D

Andrew just loves Thomas! Which is super because I (and my oldest little brother, James) grew up watching Shining Time Station on PBS. But, then, it evolved into Thomas the Tank Engine. And, today it is called Thomas and Friends. Sure does make me feel old... Anyone else remember it being called Shining Time Station? The conductor guy was so cool. He was really tiny and told the stories. Anyhoo! Andrew will grab his basket of tracks and engines and everything else he can to make a very cool place (with a bit of help). He plays for hours with this stuff. For real!! Though, as much as I thought he loved Thomas, he seems to really like James much more (which, yes, James gave to him lol). The funniest thing is hearing him "play" out different engines and people. Like, he will get Sir Topham Hat and make a deeper sounding voice and "talk" to the engines - I can only guess it is about those silly engines causing "confusion and delay" since that is usually the case... It's pretty cool to watch his imagination grow.

Big Brother in Training

Andrew is going to be a big brother in exactly 5 weeks (as long as things go smoothly before then...we will see)!

He's been my little helper for a few months now and he is so awesome at doing things that I really didn't know he could help me with. He catches on so fast with stuff. It's quite amazing.

Here's a few things he helps me with (for real):

1. He helps me with the putting the clean dishes away. He knows to wait until I get the "bad things" out - like knives. He knows where the cutting boards, pans, pots, snack bowls, and baking sheets belong. He used to just wait for me to give him something and then tell him where it goes. Now, he just takes things out and puts them where they go. He gives me the silverware one piece at a time. He gives me plates (I know...scary...but he waits for me to take it from him. He's pretty patient with this). He's a great help with this stuff!

2. He helps with laundry. He gives me clothes to put into the washer or I give him clothes to put in the dryer. He picks up clothes on the floor and puts them in the "dirty box." I haven't come up with something better yet. For now, it's the "dirty box." LOL

3. He cleans up his toys with my help before naptime, bedtime, or when we are getting ready to go out the door.

4. He gets himself ready to go when I ask. He doesn't know how to put anything on, but he will get his shoes and socks for me.

The list goes on I'm sure, but it's late and prego brain is terrible. But isn't that just amazing? He is the best helper in the world!

He's even started doing things to be a big brother. Like, when he needs a diaper change...I ask him to get a diaper for me. Or if it is bedtime, I ask him for his pajamas. Sometimes, I throw in some things like "Can you get Alex's pajamas?" He knows where his stuff is and where Alex's things are, too. And he does it. He is so great!

At first, I thought that he'd be confused with me asking for Alex's things, but he must know more about this new baby thing. I guess he would have to, right? There's another bed in his room. And, his rooms that used to just be blue with elephants now has some green with lions. I'll ask him where Alex is, too. He looks at his tummy first and makes a face, but then comes to me and pulls my shirt up and pats my tummy. Such a silly guy! We are learning about babies, too. He knows that he has to be quiet when a baby is sleeping - if he sees anyone (or Max, our dog) sleeping, he puts a finger on his nose and says, "Shhhh...." very softly.

I can't wait to see his face when he sees Alex! That's going to be so much fun (and super exhausting....lol)! Oh well, I guess I will know all about that in 5 weeks :)

Crazy About My Baybah

Dino Dan...er...Andrew

Anyone with kids probably knows about Nick Jr's show, Dino Dan. I'm pretty sure this show is geared towards the older preschoolers...even elementary students. Dan is 10, so that's one reason why I think that. Another is that he's teaching every one about dinosaurs. Names I can't even pronounce. Telling us about some creatures I never really knew existed. It's a pretty cool show. And, my little man may be Dan's youngest fan. Andrew knows that after naptime he gets to watch this show. It may come on at 4...but even if it's only 3 something. He will grab his dinosaurs and sit patiently for me to turn it on. He's 18 months old, people. He is just now starting to really talk to us with real words. Yet his favorite show is for an older crowd. What a silly guy! Today; however, he wanted to BE Dino Dan. He was trying to put his dinos in his pockets. See, Dan has this nifty explorers vest...Andrew was trying to have one, too.

Here is Dan with his nifty Dino-vest:

And, here is Dino Andrew with his Dino-belt (it's supposed to be that tool belt I made a while ago...):

We've got the dinosaur shirt, which he picked out this morning from the 2 choices I gave him. His dino-belt packed with dinos. Mr. Longneck below. And, of course, Tusker, his trusty sidekick. Oh, and don't think that he doesn't know which dinosaur is what. He knows exactly which one is the T-Rex and the Stegosaurus. He's learning about that orange raptor... And, no one knows exactly what Mr. Longneck is...his tag says he's an Apatosaurus. I thought he was a Brontosaurus. Whatever. That's why he is now named Mr. Longneck.

Well, I suppose I am going to go on a search for an explorer vest pattern, a notebook...ahem...dinosaur field guide, and some explorer gear now. Have a great rest of the week!

Healthy Toddler Snacks

Crazy About My Baybah

I don't know if you know or not, but...(I'm gonna brag for a second here...) I was the highlighted blog over at Crazy About My Baybah!! How awesome is that?! Lolo is the super mom who puts this "Toddler Talk Thursdays" together with two other great blogs every week, Sippy Cup Mom and Family and Life in Las Vegas. If you have a chance to check out these mommy blogs, do it! They are pretty awesome.

Anyhoo! There's been a lot of crazy going on here lately, but somehow it all works out. Must be magic. That is the only answer that I can come up with for most of it. But, for the healthy eating...as much as I have tried this (not that it hasn't worked, but there are picky eater moments...) every single day, Jason is the one that is making us all eat better due to his P90X. He has now started week #3 and is doing great :)

But how's this helping us? Our grocery shopping has gone from prepackaged yucko to yummy homemade goodness!

Andrew has always been a great little eater, but now that he is entering that lovely stage of knowing what he does/doesn't want and trying to get away with things... He was becoming a little picky. But, that quickly changed when he saw what his Daddy was eating!

So, snacks that used to include goldfish and similar things have now changed into this:

Mid-morning snack - Multi-grain Cheerios or Dan-o-nino Yogurt (these are the cutest little yogurts for tiny guys that I have ever seen!)

Afternoon Snack (after naptime) - Cut apples or grapes

Drink to go with the snack - PediaSure Sidekicks (we are still trying to figure out which flavor he likes more...)

And!! The amazing thing is that because we have done this consistently for 2 weeks (now starting the 3rd), he asks/wants those choices over other items.

Though, I'm sure if he saw chips or something he would be just fine with that, too. LOL. :)

See? Mr Healthy Eater Man! He's got turkey, cut apples, cut bananas, and some yogurt on that adorable plate. :) YUM!

So, now that we've got out snack habits down... I wonder about teaching manners at the table. LOL - that could be tricky!

The Simple Things

Oh, this is just too funny to not make it last week's photo!

The toddler bed is great so far, but there have been a few naptime issues. This was one of those afternoons. Someone got a little too tired from playing and couldn't make it the rest of the way back into bed. LOL!!!
What made you smile this week?

Gorgeous Weather = Good Fun!

Ok, it has been absolutely perfect outside for the past 2 weeks! I've been lazy on posting, I know. I get so tired at night now, I just go to bed and say I'll do it tomorrow. Tomorrow apparently means days later. LOL!

Playing with his favorite giant red ball. If we are in Target and happen to pass the toy section, he tries to find his ball. He's so funny!

He loves the grass!! He's going to love it even more when it is the lovely green once again.

Drawing a picture for Mommy.

Getting the digging stuff out.

This is where he lets me know that he needs a chair for him. He told me that is Daddy's... He pointed to himself and said "Me." I said, "Yes, you can sit there." Then, he says, "No. Daddy." Then, still confused...I say, "Yes, but you can use it now." He begins to get frustrated and says, "NO! Daddy! Me!"
OH!
He wants a chair for him.
Duh...

Playing golf again. I need a pool.... LOL

So, this is the golf bag... However, he seems to think it is a lawnmower. What a silly pants!

Maybe here is where he decides it is a golf bag...

Football time!

Ok, I'm gonna say it... I have the HOTTEST husband ever!

I had to do this... It was an accident picture. I was trying to zoom in on Andrew, but Alex kicked me rather hard and I flinched...thus taking a picture instead. Alex is apparently making himself known :)

Enjoying the grass and watching the planes go by.
